This workshop provides an introduction to some of the most practical physical and verbal self-defense techniques, as well as grounding in core strategic concepts of good self-defense. Participants will leave with an understanding of what self-defense is and is not, how to consider the impact of identity on personal self-defense strategies, and an introduction to the basics of threat assessment. This class involves partner work as well as hands-on physical adjustments by instructors, and utilizes an opt-in model of participation. We encourage everyone to participate at the highest degree they are able, but no activities are mandatory: consent to physical touch, clear expectations and optional modifications for different participation needs will be created at the beginning of the session and maintained throughout. This course is suitable for participants with or without prior experience.
